The Question:

What are the American Indian populations of the following states: Montana, South Dakota and North Dakota?

The Answer:

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, as of 2004, there were 26,000 American Indians living in Montana (.5% of the total state population); 67,000 in South Dakota (8.7%); and 33,000 in North Dakota (5.2%).

The U.S. states with the largest American Indian populations are: California, 417,000; Arizona, 289,000; and Oklahoma, 284,000. As of 2004 there were 2,824,505 American Indians living in the United States.
