Best Known as: former lead singer of the Dave Clark Five
Mike Smith was the lead singer, occasional keyboardist, and
songwriter of the Dave Clark Five, a band that was part of the British
invasion of the early 1960s. The band recorded hits including “Glad All
Over,” “Catch Us If You Can,” and “Over and Over.” Before 1966, the Dave
Clark Five made 12 appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show. After the band
broke up in 1970, Smith mainly worked as a producer and songwriter in
England. He formed a new band in the 1990s called Mike Smith’s Rock
Engine. The Dave Clark Five were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame in March 2008.
